2012 Local Election: Mayoral Race

(Friday 14th September 2012)

David Stewart from the Lakes Mail reported Wendy Harrison has conceded defeat to Jodie Harrison in this year’s race to mayor of Lake Macquarie City Council. Wendy was quoted saying she congratulates Jodie on her victory; Wendy looks forward to working with her and all councillors. Cr Harrison went on to discuss that her “position is, and always has been, to maintain a council which is not dominated or controlled by a political party.”

A number of factors resulted in the public decision. Wendy believes the key influences were: negative campaigns, well-resourced campaign by Labor, and the rate rise which Wendy Harrison stands by: the increase “ensures financial sustainability for Lake Macquarie Council into the foreseeable future”.
